First International Scientific Conference
“Russian troops in France and the Balkans
(1916-1918) in the history and memory of the peoples of Russia and Europe"

The conference is held on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Versailles Peace Treaty, which officially ended World War I.

The event is organized by the Commemoration Society of Russian Expeditionary Force (REF) (1916-1918) and the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The conference objectives are to discover new information on the topic, to provide an overview of the current state of scientific research and memorial work at the international level, as well as to lay out perspective directions of activity in these areas.

For the first time as part of this representative scientific forum, researchers from different countries will have the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues related to the history and combat activities of the REF, as well as perpetuating the memory of the REF’s soldiers.

The event is supported by the Federal Archival Agency, the Patriarchal Council on Culturethe Russian Historical Society, the Committee of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly on Defense and Security, the Russian Historical Society, the Likhachev Heritage Institute. Among the speakers are leading historians from Russia, France, Greece, Serbia, and the USA. Timed to the conference and on the eve of the International Museum Day is the grand opening of an extensive exhibition at the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, based on unique exhibits related to the history of the REF, from Russian museums and archives, private collections and family archives of its descendants.

The upcoming forum is going to be a truly unique platform for communication between scholars and descendants of REF soldiers, workers of museums and archives, representatives of government agencies and public organizations from different countries, it will make a worthy contribution to the cause of historical education and improving mutual understanding between nations.

The conference will cover the following topics:

– the succession of the feat (REF warriors – participants of several wars of the XX century, military dynasties, etc.)
